Heheh. I was bored, so I read this over. Man, I was so ignorant back then. Pfft, didn't know the difference between a Nazi and a Communist. And I thought I was so smart. How stupid....
The Modern School System
I guess this one's related to that other rant, about my "Utopia Society" project.
And here I am, I year later, and nothing is different from last year. I can tell. If we were to have the same Utopia project, I'm sure I'd hear the same crap. Mountains of icecream, pet leopards, giant swimming pools, a dictatorship, etc.
This kids haven't changed! They STILL can't take criticsm! One of my teachers even has a strict rule. If you say ANYTHING that sounds negative in ANY WAY, you owe that person 2 compliments. What are we, 1st graders?!
But not only is the learning enviroment linear, and based solely on positive feedback, we are also limited to our learning. Quickly, 1 by 1, electives are being taken away from us. The only elective I even have this year is a language. And I don't wanna take any of the four (Spanish, Italian, French, German) that they allow. I wanna learn Japanese. But nooo, now I'm being forced to learn Italian in school, and teach myself Japanese. And next year isn't any better, you get one elective again, and the year after that, one or two electives.
And it's like we're not even learning anything! C'mon! I was a 6th grade Honors student and I didn't even know the difference between a Nazi and a Communist!
Here I am as a 7th grade Honors student, and I still barely know anything about politics! I feel so stupid! Some of my Honors teachers treat the Honors students like retarded children. We get to be more "comfortable" in class, but learn LESS.
Then there's the social...ness. The whole school's a popularity contest...not that I care all too much.
Man, this wasn't a very good rant. Ah well, I just felt the need to post after reading the thread over. I'll probably have another nerdy, internet/game-related rant (like my Runescape one) later. *shrugs*

If you want to learn about politics ask me. And I am the only person at the board here that knows enough Japanese to get by.

Well, I own a "Japanese for Dummies," a "Japanese-English, English-Japanese Dictionary" and I'm getting a book of Kanji for Christmas. Then I'll probably buy a Japanese Phrase Book with my own money some time.
But I'll keep that in mind...

In all ego purposes, ask me about politics.
As far as languages go, only languages deemed important by school boards are taught. Latin for doctors and lawyers, Chinese for future business opportunities, Spanish because it is the second largest language in the country, etc.
As far as your whole school goes... Do you go to a 'middle school' or a 'junior high school'?

Grades 6-8, referred to as a "Middle School"
Is there a difference?

Yes. Grades 6-8 either go to Jr. High or Middle School.
Junior High is more content orientated.
Middle School makes you feel good about yourself.

Damn it all....
And because of that, Middle School has made me feel bad about myself. Jeez...
And apparently...my high school doesn't have any electives either. Where is all this money going? According to my brother's research...a good amount of it is going towards custodial uniforms. Custodial uniforms?! That's the crap our taxes are going towards?!

Wow custodial uniforms, sounds about like my own school. Right now most of our programs are facing cuts, and the estimated year deficit sites at $1.3 Million, all of this after resurfacing our track, buying all new uniforms for the third year in a row, and just recently putting up a $400,000 antenna for wireless internet. Best part is during the last election we had a levy put up for vote, that would have moved us from $410.80 per student, up to $1,110.80 per student, moving us from 8th to second in our area in terms of funding. As for political views, I would talk with Gen Gravy, myself, of both of us depending on which side of the fence you want the views coming from. But anyway good luck with school its all down hill from there.

........."which side of the fence you want the views"
What part about "I know nothing about politics" did you not understand? I really don't give. But I trust Gen 10x more than you. I don't even know who you are. And Gen's really smart.
My only political source besides Gen's ranting thread are Comedy Central shows like Colbert Report and the Daily Show. And I don't get the chance to watch those that often.

My school is not that bad. It doesn't suffer fundings, but does suffer from douchebag teachers, goths, emoes, and white-trash gangstas.
And don't bother with picking a side now, Kyle. Pick when you get drafted several years from now if those Democrats in Congress get that draft bill passed. Then again, it may not happen, since I haven't heard anything about it in days. I won't bother checking CSPAN or whatever that network is, because it is probably the only thing more boring than Nascar.

Oh, Gen. Trust me, my school has all that crap too. Most of the gothic population graduated last year. But we have a hell load of white-trash gangstas. And douchebag teachers. Not that many emos.

It's been almost a year since I ranted. But I felt a rant was in order to keep multiple threads of discussion. And also, it's prett obvious what there's to rant about. News "Scandals" (and Fox 11 news)I know we had a short talk about this, but now I'm gonna elaborate. But before I start, watch these 2 Fox 11 news videos. Yes, 2. There's 1 more in addition to the one I've already put up on here. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxWgRY1I_SIyoutube.com/watch?v=4PLOFnEUTpYNow, for this rant, let's put to the side that Fox 11 specifically seems to be made up of complete idiots, and let's look at it on a more general basis. There are six words to describe and summarize all of which I will say. What has this world come to?Everyone knows that the human race, and world itself, has been spiraling downhill from the innocent place it used to be to a more corrupt, annoying place. Even besides war, it's TV and newspapers that really seem to be screwing things up. Somehow, the whole system of "news" (whether it be digital or paper) seems to run on the thought process that 'Everything we must get out for the public to know has to be BAD.' Rape, murder, suicide bombing, celebrity scandals, sports scandals, and 'bomb' false alarms in airports and subways are literally the ONLY things I see in the newspaper today. Now, that probably has something to do with the fact I live near New York City, which is a breeding ground for that kind of stuff, so I don't know what news is like wherever you live. The news is supposed to run on 3 things, which are interchangable. 1. Recent events, 2. Important news, and 3. Plain ol' amazing or interesting things. For number 1, 'recent events' seems to mean "what celebrity got arrested last night," or "what guy wasn't allowed to ride the subway because he had a baby who could've been a bomb." Yes, those DO qualify as recent events, but do we need to know?! And they do NOT qualify as the next 2 topics. Number 2, important news. This is where things spiraled out of control. The press doesn't seem to comprehend what "important" is, and doesn't know where the public's priorities are. "ZOMG ITS TOM CRUISE" is not important news. "Scientists have already discovered planets with similar atmospheres with ours, planets with polar ice caps, and planets with active geysers." That's pretty important. But I never ONCE saw that as a newspaper headline. The article didn't even get its own full page. And now number 3, things that are interesting or amazing. "5 children raped last night and 2 houses burned down" is not amazing nor is it interesting. "7 year old boy creates Michealangelo sculpture with toothpicks" is both amazing and interesting. But you don't even see anything like that in the news. Hell, you don't seen anything REMOTELY HAPPY in my newspapers. So now, going to Fox 11 news. And it's not just Fox 11, I see this kind of news elsewhere too. Old man stalks on Myspace. Gamers addicted to WoW. Man dies by playing Starcraft 20 hours straight. With new things nowadays, like video games, computer games, and popular websites, it's never GOOD news in the press. The news puts out this image that these new, popular things everyone of the new generation likes are BAD. They're EVIL. They're rotting the children's minds! Why?! Why does it seem like the news has a grudge with new things, and "things your children might be doing."? Why can't everyone just calm the hell down, and just let things be?! Oh, gee, people who spam anonymously and hack are gonna kill us all. Korean gamers and young American children are "addicted" with Maplestory. WoW is way more addicting than Maplestory. And while more people play Maplestory globally (c'mon, we're talking Korea) than WoW, way more people are addicted to WoW, and people likely spend more money on it. But atleast it's worth it. Wow, you can buy items on Maplestory. It must be an evil scam! Kids are stealing money from their parents? Whose fault is that? Partially the kids, partially the parents. Why get the video gaming society (including developers) blamed for?! This kind of stuff is spiraling out of control. And it just makes me say one thing to people like Fox 11 news. "This is why we can't have nice things."

That's just how news works nowerdays. The people who work at Fox have to write news reports that will interest the viewer, right? That's the whole point, that's how they get money. So what makes you want to watch more:
"Internet Pranksters Harass Family"
"Anonymous Army of Internet Cyber-Terrorists Attack the Innocent"
Basically, the reporter interviewed a few people (some MySpace user, Alex Wuori and his mom), did a tiny amount of research, and wrote a report that would interest the viewers the most. In this case, they made it seem like "anonymous" was a dangerous group of "hackers" that would attack people, ect ect. They identified Alex Wuori as an ex-hacker, too. That he used to be "one of them" and that he knew how dangerous they were.
The truth is that they raid forums and hack MySpace users because it's funny. But no, they do it for the "lulz", a corrupted version of lol.
Basically, they make a big deal out of things because they're sensationalist. There's an anonymous army of hackers out there, and YOU could be next! Look at this woman, she bought a DOG to protect herself from prank calls! ZOMG.
It sucks when they talk about video games, though. They always blame the game, not the people playing.
If one kid kills himself because he can't beat a level in a game, who's fault is it? The kid, it's obvious. But the media would twist it so that it seems like the game MADE the kid kill himself.
Personal responsibility? Noooooo. They find someone to blame, make the report simple and easy to digest. Video game makes kid kill himself.
I'd also like to see more reporting on other non-controversial things. Pluto isn't a planet? That should be on the front page. Paris Hilton got arrested again? Who the fuck cares?

*sigh* The Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, and Lindsay Lohan things went way too far, especially the former. People had, like, fucking "countdowns" to the very second of when she got out. There was a crowd of people chasing the police car. I mean..jesus...
The two things news does somewhat right are politics (although different news sources could deliver different quality and versions of political reports) and scientific studies, but only if they have something to do with nutrition, or something that affects almost all of us everyday. But seriously...where are the scientific and technologic breakthroughs? Why aren't they ever headlines?

The news is shit, especially fox news. Fox News was actually paid by the bush administration to run terror stories on a regular basis. And yes that has been proven. Fox news is probably the most incompetent group of news reporters on the planet. they put flashy graphics in their reports in order to make things they report about seem scary and important. And honestly who gives a shit if Paris Hilton goes to jail? Shell be back there again next month. Celebrities are only important because we think they are important. Most celebrities are only celebrities because they can act. So what? I roleplay and am a DM. So does this mean I'm important too? Of course not. Just like acting doesn't make them important. It's money that makes them important. Rich people are famous because they can buy shit. Why do we care again? Oh yes because people are stupid! Kid dies playing starcrat for 20 hours? Was it the games fault? The parents? No. It's no ones fault that the kid was too fucking stupid to eat. An idiot does something stupid so thats news? No. People changing lives are what you should report about. Bombings are important news, yes. But you can't stop at the bad. There are still good things to report about.
