"Are you not from these lands then?" Aila asked, slightly confused.

"My people are from Draconis but I'm personally from Earth."

Aila had never heard of such places though she was certain that it was of no part of the world on which she lived. As far as she was aware, there was nothing beyond the great expanse that reach above them except for death as all her people had been taught from a young age.

She picks up her spear and starts to clean off the blood.
"I came here to kill as many of these invading snakes as I could. These worlds have to be protected by someone. And that someone is going to be me."

"Your home land is from... beyond the great expanse then?" Aila asked tentatively.

She points straight up without even looking at her.

Then the elders must have been wrong about only death being beyond the great expanse. Aila could barely comprehend that perhaps there might be many many more lands out there unknown to them, that they were merely a speck of dust in comparison.

"I'm guessing your religion taught that the starts where your ancestors or something like that didn't it?"

"Something like that, yes," Aila said, "They were thought to be the tears of the Great Mother after she had created the lands and found she could have no children of her own. Which is how my people came to be. She could not have any of Her own, so She created us as her children instead."

"They are actually big balls of gas and fire. They are gigantic. A miliion of your world could fit inside one with room leftover."

Aila's eyes widened slightly in wonderment at this fact. A mere speck of dust indeed. The more she learnt about beyond, the more interested she was in seeing this for herself. Just imagine what tales she could bring back to her people of the wonders she might see and perhaps even what they might learn from it.

She looks down at her wonderment.
"Not that you'll ever see it. There's no air in space or atmospheric pressure. Without a starship you would explode."

"A starship?" Aila asked.

Already a plan was forming in her little mind. Aila knew she would not be so easily noticed right away should she choose to be sneaky, but she intended to see these wonders for herself. She would ask first of course, and if the woman declined to take her then Aila would find a way to sneak onto this starship.
