"Well, compared to you I am, but among my kinsmen I'm as tall, if not taller than they," Aila proclaimed. Oftentimes she had wondered why the Great Mother had decided to fashion them this way, but she had been told by many not to question Her ways as there was a reason for everything that She did.

"It's amazing that this planets biosphere could support creatures such as you."
She pokes Aila.

Aila flailed slightly to keep her balance. Being nearly feather-weight, even the wind could have a rather adverse affect on her. Upon regaining her footing, she gave a curious look, testing out this new word that was unfamiliar to her, "Biosphere?"

"Yes. The circle of life. Plant, herbivore and predator. Every planet that has life has a certain balance that must be maintained."

"Oh," Aila said, understanding it now, "...So why is it so amazing then?"

"I just can't see something as advanced and as small as you fill any niche."

"Its just part of the Great Mothers plans. All the clans care for life that surrounds their groves, even if it is a bit difficult at times," Aila explained.

"The lands, the air, the water... its all part of her, the very life that sustains all her children," Aila said, making it out to be as some sort of goddess that her people believed in.

"Oh a goddess."
She leans back. She doesn't seem very impressed.

"Well... its what my kinsmen believe anyways," Aila said in a slightly exasperated way as she seated herself to be more comfortable. Again, she'd have to wonder why, if this Great Mother was so powerful, that she'd fashion such tiny beings to uphold the laws of the land. And she had certainly seen no great miracles to prove that such a being existed. After all, would the Great Mother not have protected her children against those creatures that had nearly invaded them. It was somewhat confusing and conflicted with what she had been taught.

"Well, you do have to wonder why one so great would create people as tiny as we are when there are plenty of wild creatures that are many times larger," Aila said, "I usually just get told to keep my mouth shut about it though."

"You would do well to hold onto your faith little one."
She looks up at the sky.
"Sometimes the only thing you have to shield yourself with is your faith."

"You speak from experience?" Aila asked her, thinking that she sounded a lot like the elders when they had some particle of wisdom to impart.
