I can't be the only HM fan on here, can I? The series rocks, and the new gamecube one sounds like it's not going to suck like A Wonderful Life did. It looks and sounds like it got some designs from Animal Crossing, which might turn some people off.
But with a rival you have to actively compete against, multiple starting areas, and a real objective besides get rich and get married, I'm so buying this one the second I see it on the shelves.
Still, this one kind of snuck up on me. I didn't even hear of it until the begining of this month.

I liked back to nature, but I don't have the money to get the new ones. Didn't A wonderful life not let you marry? If thats true it totally takes out one of the things that everyone knows the game for, and it also lowers the replay value to like 2.
I might get Magical Melody, or at least rent it, but at the moment I'm saving up for KH2, and nothing, and I mean nothing short of 2 exams this week can get me to not play KH2... which is exactly what I have... T.T
I'm still getting it, but I won't be able to play it obsessively 'til thursday. Meh.

Christi is obsessed with harvest moon. I love the marriage system for them.

No, you could marry in A Wonderful Life, but you only had 3 choices. Although I didn't play it long enough to find out myself, apperently when you propose to them they show about as much emotion as "people ordering lunch." In Magical Melody, you can finally play as both the guy and the girl without having to pay for seperate editions. They both have 6 choices of marriage. So replay value should be pretty high if the characters are interesting. I don't know much else... it's annoying how little info there is right now. But like you also said, the fact that Kingdom Hearts 2 is coming out the same day means this game is going to be taking the backseat in terms of demand. Ah well. Maybe whoever else buys it could start up a game of "find the bad translation" with me. There's always some spelling error or total text screw up in these games. Hell, in Friends of Mineral Town, the priest spoke german once when you talked to him during a special event, and in More Friends of Mineral Town, when you talked to someone to start a mini game, the text was still in japanese! ;D

Hehe, I play Friends of mineral town on visual boy advance when my professors get boring. Either that or Mario vs DK, Shining Soul, Kirby Nighmare in dreamland, or Kirby Magic Mirror. The only problem is taht one of my friends doesn't know how to whisper, so he says in his normal voice "What game is that?" and watches me play, which I'm not totally sure, but it probably shifts unwanted attention to me.

Eh, I'm waiting more for the Harvest Moon DS. I'm a Harvest Moon fan too.
I hate people who can't whisper.

Yeah, well you know what I say about Magical Melody now that I've seen a gameplay video.
"EWWWWWWW"
Oh my god... The character models are soooo bad. They have huge asses, and small ass legs, and just EWW. Nothing of this game is visually appealing, at all... The gameplay has to be like... Godly if they want me to have any chance of playing it.

Waiting for DS one. DS graphics are fine. Thank god they didn't try to be cool and go 3d. I like the 2D better on DS, for the most part. You don't need 3D to have good graphics. 'Nuff Said.
The console series should of just sticked with the semi-realisitc graphics they had in Wonderful Life.

Psh. Don't know why the hell everyone uses the graphics as the defining factor as to why they wouldn't buy the game. Whatever.
From what I've played of the game, I really like it. The town starts out tiny but gets bigger as time goes on, you can grow crops on unused land plots even if you don't own them, you can build up to 20 buildings and can move furniture around in the house, and fishing is much more fun and faster than in previous games.
The flaws? Well for one thing, it's damn hard. Bit refreshing for me, since I'm a veteran of the series, but for new folks it can be a bumpy start. You actively compete against your rival, as it shows in the menu how much you've shipped compared to your rival the previous day. The problem is that 1) There's no real need to compete against your rival and 2) The little bastard cheats. When I got two typhoons in 3 days during the summer, my rival somehow managed to get outside and ship over 2000G on both occasions.
Making money and getting lumber are both MUCH harder this time around. There are plenty of trees around, but after you cut them down, they STAY down. Same with stones and boulders. Weeds also have pretty much taken over the entire town, but you can walk over them, so there's no need to spend hours cleaning them up. Your character has some really bad energy problems, because my person only had enough stamina at the start of the day to hoe a 3x6 rectangle. Picking stuff up also drains your stamina. Just a pin prick every time, but if you've got a lot of stuff to ship, it can get annoying. Because of the severe energy limitations, fishing is about the only way to make cash. Foraging stuff in the mountains is out of the question. The stuff doesn't show up every day, and when it does show up, it might be in a different location. Fortunately, time isn't a big factor in the game. All the buildings have really leinient schedules of when they're open, so you'll rarely be inconvienced by a closed store.
Compared to Friends of Mineral Town: +Building upgrades and such really give you a bigger sense of accomplishment. +Much better scheduling on stores. Many are open the minute you're awake. +Fishing is fun and fast. +Different real estate options; can place house and barns in different ways. +Mining is a lot faster to do. +Planting pretty much wherever you want is a nice touch. +Constantly moving village. People move in and out. +Cooking objects has a use for once. +10 potential spouses per gender. +Music is tolerable even after 2 hours of it. -Not as many fish to catch, can get tedious. -Cooking took a real hit in this game, nowhere near as complex as FOMT. -Rivalry seems pointless. -Some festivals depend on your donations to make them happen. Can get annoying. -Mining cave is smaller, the gases you can find in the rocks at times are gimmicky. -Such a low stamina cap could annoy those used to FOMT. +/- Trees and boulders stay destroyed, which makes logging harder but movement easier. Can buy saplings to replace cut trees. Very similar to Animal Crossing in this respect. +/- Lots of villagers and wild animals, most seem useless.
Phew! I think that covers it.

Nice job, Xer. IMO, stamina meters are annoying in just about any case. Hell, they're one of the DOZENS of reasons that I left Runescape.

See, it takes a lot for me to factor in graphics in anything, but this was just horrible. The body is huge, the ass especially, the legs are tiny and it all is just not visually appealing at all. I mean, at least the other games had the body be totally proportionate besides the big head. I don't care if its 2d, 3d, realiztic or cartoony, but they have to be visually appealing enough to not distract you from the actual game.
