Video games make people kill each other!

Today in World History we were discussing Rome and how it compared to modern society, specifically America. It was all going fine until the subject of video games was brought up. Basically, one kid brought them up, another said that they were really violent, and that went on for a bit. Then a girl across the room talked about a "new console called the Wii" and how you had to do violent things with real movements. That's right, folks. The Wii is violent, because we all know how controversial Nintendo's recent games have been. T_T

I got called on a bit later, and tried to explain that video games don't make people kill each other. I didn't make it past the first sentence before people started yelling out. They thought I was crazy. They said things that were pretty general until I heard about a kid that shot someone with his dad's gun after playing a violent video game.

I got a chance to continue(start) what I was trying to say before, explaining the ratings system, the parent's responsibility, ect. I heard more bullshit about violence, realism, how games were the source of all evil... And didn't get a chance to talk back before the teacher moved on to another subject.

I knew that the media overhyped video game violence, but this is the first time I've actually seen it's effect on people. They're like fucking zombies. Hey, someone shot 3 cops and blamed it on a video game where you beat up hookers and start gang wars! I'll base my view on the subject entirely on this sole report, and refuse to acknowledge the possibility that the entire claim is bullshit and the personal responsibility involved! Jack Thompson is my hero!

Poor, Poor Cutter. I feel bad for you. You didn't have to write all of that. You could've just wrote the words "People think video games kill people" and we would all understand and still discuss. Especially since most of us don't care what happens in your class.

Okay, your mistake was taking too long, 'casue people are idiots and have the attention span of a cockroach. Your point should be stated immediately in the first sentence. All you needed to say was, "In order to want to kill someone by playing a videogame you'd have to be insane already." Thats it. No need for stating parental stuff or anything like that until you're questioned. That way, you've already stated your point before anyone could stop you, and then all you have to do is refute each an every idiotic claim. But if you just said, "Videogames dont make people kill each other." then you just stated that you disagree, but have no reasons behind it. Then you have no foundation for people to agree with you, especially if you are the only one in the room who thinks so.
