This post was initially made on the Middle Ground forums, but it didn't get much feedback at all, but I figured there couldn't be any harm in posting here. Just take notice that what you read here wasn't initially intended for this site in particular, even thought I don't think it'd matter much. But hey, I may as well give the heads up since I'm just copy/pasting it here. |
I've got plenty of game ideas in my head. That also means I've got characters for most of them. Thing is, it's kind of hard to explain stories and gameplay ideas to friends when I can't come up with too many names for my characters. So I made a topic here for whenever I'm tired of these people being nameless and just want something to refer to them by.
For now, I'll only use characters from an idea for what's trying to be a "Puzzle RPG." Starting with the four main characters who get storylines.
Setting- It's mostly a Fantasy Kitchen Sink (If I'm using that trope correctly, haven't checked for a while.) involving Magic, Steampunk, Modernized stuff, a whole bunch of different things really. It's also supposed to have a wide atmosphere of locations from the happy cheery home of the Fairies, to the dark hallowed Dead Zone. Right now, I'm settling with the name Forestia, as it's supposed to be mostly covered in trees of varying types by the area. The four heroes start off at their school in the middle of the woods where they learn how to use gems to combat with foes. Each learn of something important which set them all off on their respective journeys.
Hero 1- The youngest student of these four, she's the most naive and cheerful. She can befriend nearly anybody and generally gets by using the power of friendship to save the day. Her storyline involves a villainess beauty queen trying to use a demon crown as an accessory so she can win the next pageant, and generally has the easiest and most light-hearted story.
Hero 2- This young man uses a sword for fighting, along with the mana gained from the jewels the game revolves around. He has a bit of a past with a loose mastermind and once he hears word of his whereabouts, he sets out into the frozen cliffs, where an underground laboratory lies hidden. He generally keeps to himself, so not much is known about what his past is like, but he also has a habit of trying to protect anyone and everyone he befriends. His storyline is of an intermediate level and revolves around fighting the wild demons/beast type people/whatever you find out in these parts, and discovering the bio-experiments that have been occurring in secret. Is the only hero to have a true connection to the main villain.
Hero 3- A young girl who has a black and white view on the world, and prefers the powers of light and darkness over physcial strength or elemental magic. When requested by her teachers to investigate the nearby candy forest for suspicious activity, she moves in to find out that not only are artificial beasts showing up here, but the candy residents are having their own issues to deal with as well. Even thought she's the type who will do whatever she's told to do by her superiors, she also has a strong sense of what a family means, and comes to expand on those views when she learns more about the complicated past of three candy girls and their human father. All while making sure they can remain protected from the scientists who think candy people would make good ingredients for a variety of experiments.
Hero 4(Currently considering Merrilyn)- One of the older students is a religious girl who wields the power of light in her cross shaped staff. She's been hearing cases of girls going missing in what's reffered to as the Dead Zone, the dark side of the woods where the undead tend to crawl, and is a generally dangerous place to be. Top suspect seems to be the noble vampire who lives in the largest mansion there, but he's a particularly powerful monster and there are even worse monstrosities roaming around the darkness. It's unknown what drives this girl to disregard all warnings and traverse the foggy dead woods, but she says there's someone she needs to find. Despite being a woman of holy stature, she has a harsh view on the people who live in the wild, and regard the as demons all the same. She has a noble outlook on life and humanity, but holds no bars against monsters and anyone else who isn't a human. She hopes to use her powers of light to exterminate all of them. (Has a dark twin, who wields an upside-down cross sword named Evillyn, who is trying to help all demon-kind by banding together a "rescue crew" of sorts to protect any demons being hunted by the humans and launch a retaliation war.)
And while I'm at it, here's the villains of each respective storyline. (Numbers stay consistant with heroes.)
Villain 1- A Beauty Queen who wishes to use a demonic tiara to look prettier for the next beauty pageant coming up, but is completely unaware of the insane powers it can unleash onto the world is worn for too long. She's rather selfish and won't allow any changes to her plans without a fight. By her side, are her outfit designer (homosexual male) and obssessive fangirl (thinks she's a cat) who will also fight by her side for whatever she wants. She's not nessecarily "evil," she's just really stubborn and tends to make some stupid decisions.
Villain 2- Main Villain behind most of the overall plot, the leader of an underground organization of Scientists who attempt to defy the laws of both heaven and hell. The entire organization has a "sailor" theme to them, with their symbol being an upside down anchor to represent their will to leave the "land of the controlled" and "strike our influence to the skies where all shall see it." His outfit is fairly sailor-esque too. He wears a wide white longcoat and a mask that conseals his identity topped with a captain's hat bearing their organization's logo. His weapon of choice is an anchor itself, as not only can he wield it as a heavy weapon, he also throws it to pierce the heavens and yank down numerous angelic structures which rain down on his opponents. His other signature move is to sink his anchor into the earth and haul up a mechanized horror that unleashes a rain of fire and brutality before being dismissed. Seeing as how he's fighting against both heaven and hell, he doesn't have too many friends outside the humans and creatures who grew a sense of loyalty to his views. The guy's got plenty of enemies from all directions as a result, as well.
Villain 3- One of Villain 2's lower ranked scientists who's been kidnapping candy people and using them to create his "Chimera Beasts." He's ruthless and practically emotionless, not too unlike Hero 3. Unlike her however, he's not above taking advantage of inner turmoil among a family to lure each and every member into his ultimate trap to combine them all with yet another artificially modified human brought over from the underground labs.
Villain 4- A vampire who lives in a gorgeous mansion in the Dead Zone, but constantly craves female attention. So he wears glitter to attract young clueless girls and take them home where he will show them a life of luxury and fantastic fantasy... only to slit their throat right open with his favorite knife and drink up from his new blood fountain. He's been at this for a while, and despite having plenty of demon hunters after him already, he's just too powerful to take down by an individual. He finds Evillyn and tries to work his magic on her, which is ultimately what attracts Merrilyn's attention. He has the power to drain life from his opponents as well as various moves that work more effectively against females. Also the usual transformations that vampires are usually associated with. One of the more difficult bosses.
This is only the tip of the iceberg, but I figure eight characters is plenty for now. I may not even get somewhere with this game idea, but I at least would like some names for these guys (Except Merrilyn and Evillyn, but if anyone's got better names for those two, go ahead and share them.) Plus I just wanted an excuse to share some character ideas, despite not having named them yet.
I might share more characters to give a little more depth to what I've presented of the world already if this topic gets enough attention.
