There are two categories of Mechs with several classes in each. There are Space Mechs and Land Mechs. Space Mechs are incapable of operating on land and land mechs are incapable of space combat.
Land Mechs are put into Four Classes according to weight. Light Mechs, Medium Mechs, Heavy Mechs, and Siege Mechs.
Light Mechs are Mechs weighing from 20 to 35 Tons. The Mechs are the fastest of all the Mechs in production. The mechs are usually lightly armed and armored and are usually used as scouts for the heavier classes. It's not uncommon to see the light Mechs equipped for electronic warfare, with advanced sensors and optics equipped. These Mechs are also commonly equipped with thrusters for limited flight.
Medium Mechs are mechs weighing from 40 to 55 tons. These mechs are the most versatile mechs on the field. They are also the most common mechs on the battlefield due to such versatility. They are better armed and armored than light mechs but not as much as a heavy mech. These mechs can be out fitted with some electronics warfare equipment that light mechs are known for but without sacrificing armor and armaments. These mechs are also known for limited thruster equipment though it is rarer than on light mechs.
Heavy mechs are Mechs weighing from 60 to 75 tons. These mechs are armed with all the heaviest weapons money can buy but still retain some mobility. These mechs are well known for being able to take a hit as well as dish it out. It's rare to see any of these mechs outfitted with any electronic warfare or thruster equipment.
Siege mechs are any mechs weighing 80 tons or above. These mechs are the most feared of all mech. Large, slow, heavily armed, heavily armored, and ungodly expensive. These mechs can be outfitted with the best equipment in excess. All the best guns are piled on in an attempt to overpower an enemy. These mechs are also known as walking Turrets for their complete slowness. Only in extremely rare cases are these mechs out fitted with any electronic warfare equipment or thrusters.
Space mechs are classified in a different matter. The types are Strikers, Siege, Shield, and Swords.
Strikers are lightly armored and fast close range mechs equipped for anti mech combat. To lightly armed to kill anything other than another mech. These mechs are fast and deadly.
Siege are much like a land siege mechs armored and armed to the extreme these mechs are mede to take out frigates and capitol ships. Though in space combat they are extremely vulnerable and are killed quickly without a shield mech.
Shield mechs are an oddity. Heavily armored like a heavy land mech. These mechs are capable of creating various shield to protect other mechs. From electronic shields capable of knocking out the guidance in an enemy missile to plasma shields to protect siege mechs.
Sword mechs are medium armored mechs that attack at a distance with rifles and missles. These mechs are poor in close range combat and are easily killed by striker mechs. These mechs are mainly used to kill unprotected siege mechs and shield mechs from a distance.
