Rough outline of the Draken.
Drakonia
Drakonia is the home planet of the Drakens, a species similar to the Dragonair. It is believed that at some time in the anals of history, the two species were one, however, there has yet to be proof of this belief.
Drakonia is a planet of sweltering temperatures. The equator of the planet is home to a luscious jungle, where as the other regions of the planet are mountainous landscapes. There is a large desert in the northern hemisphere, where the capital city of the Draken race resides. The city's name is hard to pronounce in English, so when they arrived there, the humans gave it a new name: Phoenix Rising. The Drakens liked the sound of it over the old name.
The Draken
The Draken are a race of humanoids with a dragon-like appearance. Compared to human males, Draken males have a much larger muscle mass. Their strength is unparalleled, they have only met their match in terms of raw, physical strength on some of the Beast Worlds.
Drakens are a highly durable race, explosives and lasers barely seem to harm their thick hides. However, when exposed to extreme cold, Drakens go into a hibernative state. If a Draken stays in hibernation for a week, they slip into a coma. If they stay in it for a month, they die.
Females of the race are much smaller, having a build similar to a human female. However, they still possess great strength.
History
In 3255 Commander Jonathon Gale of the FSA lands on a luscious planet in uncharted territories. On the planet, his troops are attacked by a race of large, insect creatures. These creatures devastated Jonathon's forces. They were saved by a group of Draken, who were hunting on the planet.
The group of Draken was headed by Aest Blood-Hide, the future Emperor of the Draken. At that time, he was merely an adolescent, out to prove himself by hunting down the race of insectoids known as the Vassh'Kul. This race is the dire enemies of the Draken, for it has encroached on Draken space for several hundred years.
When offered to come join the FSA by Commander Gale, Aest refused and replied with this:
"We Draken are a proud people who follow our own rules! We seek only to hunt down the Vassh'Kul hive and wipe out our only enemies!"
When Commander Gale asked Aest how he was able to fluently speak English, Aest told him that his people had been receiving radio transmissions from Earth, and that 'English' was taught to young Drakens in the event that one day come across a human.
"The program you Earthlings call, 'Jerry Springer' is especially popular among my people!"
Commander Gale returned to Mars with his report of the encounter of the Drakens. No more Draken contact is made for some time.
In 4041, a Draken ship enters Mars airspace. A Draken by the name of Grat Soot-Snout lands on Mars with a handful of warriors. He demands to met with the leader of the humans, but instead meets Commander Dianna Gale, descended of the first human to make contact with the Draken.
Grat Soot-Snout very clearly, and bluntly told the young Commander:
"The Swarm comes! Either you humans move aside so we can swat those damn bugs, or you humans while be snuffed out as well!"
4041 December, Drakens declare war on the FSA for standing in their way of the eradication of the Vassh'Kul. The war becomes to be known as the 'Eight Months of Tribulation'. Thirty-two humans and one Draken die in the war, but not at the hands of one another.
The Vessh'Kul finally enter the Milky Way. Their appearance causes the Draken Emperor, Aest Blood-Hide, to call for a ceasefire with the FSA.
4042, the Draken become a part of the FSA. Aest Blood-Hide relinquishes his title of Emperor, and his people return to the old Tribal system of government.
Culture
The Draken are a very bellicose people. They enjoy combat and conflict to the highest degree. However, they hold to themselves a very strict code of honor. They only engage in combat if it is an honorable match, or over a matter of honor. Every town and city has an arena where Draken compete in various competitions, whether it is a gladiatorial battle or a sport event.
Hunting is the center of Draken culture. Young Drakens, both male and female, must embark on a hunt in order to prove themselves adults. They can only return from the hunt when they come back with a catch that is worthy of becoming a trophy, or a feast. Not once has a Draken adolescent not returned from a hunt empty handed.
Clans hold monthly hunts where they embark from their home planet of Drakonia and head to one of the beast worlds. They hunt exotic creatures or the planet's most sentient beings without any of their modern weapons or equipment. This is to provide them with a challenge. Besides these special hunts, Drakens will typically hunt some of the beasts of their homeworld or the Vessh'Kul.
Drakens are a very spiritual people. They believe in the spirits of the Earth, and highly respect nature. They never hunt too much, remembering to keep Drakonia's ecosystem in balance. Those who have great spiritual powers usually become power magic-wielders in the Draken military.
Military
The Draken military heavily relies on the brute force and natural abilities of the Draken. All Draken wield plasma weapons, usually in the form of swords or axes. Male Drakens also wield large chainguns and other heavy arms. Female Drakens carry small arms and plasma daggers. Since they are more lithe than their male counterparts, females usually make for excellent scouts and assassins in the Draken military.
In space, Draken spaceships are slender and one of the fastest known interstellar ships. However, most Draken spaceships are not outfitted for combat. They rely on their speed to get Draken troops in and off planets, since Draken military strength relies on the ground troops.
