This game is the pinacle of excellence. Your character is nearly completely customizable. The world is sooo giant, it is ridiculous. I had to restart one time because I got lost in Oblivion's massive world. All the races have their own abilities and traits, giving you numerous different ways to play through Oblivion. If you play as an Ork, it is heavy weaponry and strength that will be your specialty. Play as a Wood Elf, and use speed and agility to fight.
I haven't even beaten a tenth of a game so far, and I have had the game since it came out. Oblivion Gates just make the game even bigger by opening portals to oppisite dimensions. The disease factors of the game make it even more interesting, including the disease that causes Vampirism in your character. Vampirism makes the game even more fun. If you let your character become a Vampire, you get increased strength and agility. You also get Vampire powers that make your stealth abilities even better. However, the downsides to Vampirism is that if you become a full Vampire, the NPCs will react to your frightening appearance, and will refuse to speak with you. The sunlight also is really damaging, and you will be forced to retreat to the dark during the day. When you feed, you will lose all your full Vampire abilities. It certainly gives the game a twist, and being a Vampire helps when you do Dark Brotherhood quests.
The game also has several factions you can join. The Arena for warriors who thirst for battle, The Mages Guild for heroes who use magic, The Fighters Guild for valiant warriors who fight for justice, The Dark Brotherhood for dark warriors who kill and maim, The Blades for warriors who want to protect the Empire, and the Thieves Guild for pickpocketers and crooks. You can avance all the way to the top of these factions, and order around everyone.
Basically. this game is amazing. It is huge, and holds many opportunities. You can fight for the good of the world, or be a murderous beast who kills for fun. You need to be careful though, because the more infamous you become from the crimes you commit, you will be hunted down by the Imperial Legion, and local city guards. Too much time in jail will severely lower your stats.
