They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Let me rephrase that:
Copying is the most obvious form of lazyness and a lack of originality.
This really pisses me off. Nintendo's Revolutionary ideas have been stolen by Microsoft and Sony BEFORE THE SYSTEM HAS EVEN BEEN RELEASED! First of all, both of them have gotten pattents for Revolution-remote styled devices. Second, the X-box live Arcade? Yeah, nothing suspicious there...
Microsoft, if you want to play Halo 3 with the limited(albeit fine), current control scheme, go ahead, but stealing from Nintendo is just fucking cheap. You entered the console market suddenly last generation, and pimple-faced teenagers drooled over your technical specks, buying it not for the games, but for the hardware of a brick of a console with a controller that only a mother could love.
Nintendo is gambling a lot on two and a half kickass features. 1, the controller. 2, the download service. 2 and a half, online play.
Now, the competition, and no-doubtably the X-box and PS3 fanbase are jealous of the Revolution's to-be kickass FPS'. They call it "kiddy" and hold their noses high, but they know that a lot of good will come from it, just like with the DS.
So guess what? Sony and Microsoft steal the controller idea that Nintendo is risking everything on, just like they did the rumble pack, control pad, and shoulder buttons.
THANKS A LOT, GUYS!
This is ACCEPTABLE at best, since it's unlikely that they'll be released this generation, and if they are, they'll be optional peripherals that don't get a lot of attention, yet everyone buys because they kick so much ass.
But then the X-box took the next big step. They stole the virtual console idea, renaming it, "X-box Live Arcade", and shoved it into their console at the last minute.
Maybe that's too harsh. After all, they put a lot into it. It's a great service, and there really isn't anything wrong with it, since they had plenty of time to design it. But they still stole Nintendo's idea.
This is even more irrating because the 360 is already out, and so Nintendo's ideas are already at risk, if not already stolen. I wouldn't be surprised if the 360 suddenly released the X-wand anytime soon. I predict it.
The worst part of it all? Nintendo NEVER HAD A MOMENT when the Virtual Console was exclusive to them. The X-box was hurried out the door for X-mas, along with X-box Live Arcade. That is total foul-play on Microsoft's part.
So, the Rev only has two things left. Online play for those who have just gotten their first taste via the DS, and the controller.
Will the Revolution have even a second when it's controller is exclusive to itself, or will the competition steal it?
'Just makes the wait for E3 even worse.
Oh, and Gen? Bite me.
