Luigi looks too much like Mario.

Don't use the line tool for hair. That's my advice, because right now it looks pretty bad.

Luigi needs to be taller and thinner than Mario.

Luigi is also supposed to have what looks like an upside-down pear for a head.

That kind of reminds me. In all this time I've reached the astounding realization that sprites suck. A lot.

Anyone who says drawing requires more talent than making good custom sprites is a liar.

Anyone who says drawing requires more talent than making good custom sprites is a liar. Yeah I know, Fighting sprites is a major example.

Anyone can draw. Not everyone can make good custom sprites. Not recolors. Custom sprite sheets.

Even if you make sprites from scratch there is a significant difference between making good sprites and drawing a good picture. I can't think of any witty examples but sprites are such a limited medium that making good ones is easy. It's like making a picture out of lego blocks. This is especially true if you think about them in terms of how they are utilized. Compare an animated TV show to gameplay footage. That's what comparing sprites to drawings is like. Which one takes more effort? Which one looks nicer?
This is coming from a shitty artist, btw. Even the crap I draw takes more effort then sprites.

As much as I love drawing over sprites now, I agree with Zaku.
You're definitely right that drawing takes a lot of effort, Cutter. You're also right that spriting is a limited medium. Those are both true.
You seem to be missing the concept that a limited medium is usually harder than a medium without strict limits. In terms of making sprite sheets from scratch, you actually do use a lot of the same skills and concepts that a drawer has to. The only difference? The limitation of pixels.
To get the idea, let me name a few other limitations on art that would make being good harder: -trying to draw with a blindfold on -trying to draw with only your thumb and pointer finger -trying to draw a person using only straight, no curved lines
While seemingly irrelevant, those are limitations. Just like spriting. And spriting and drawing are also similar in that making 8-bit sprites can be easier to make look good, while drawing chibi/cartoony can also sometimes be easier.
The more you know, and such.
