I colored an old sketch I found of an original character to give you some tips on shading. PLAINCOLOREDWhen it comes to shading, you really need to think of how the creases and things that clothes have, and where shadows fall on the human body. The scarf, for example, has several differently casts shadows on it. The t-shirt has more shadow to it because it is being worn under a buttoned shirt. Hair is interesting in that it can shine, so you can have fun with how you shade it. The crotch and right foot have more shading because not as much light will be cast on them. Also, since you aren't going with insanely detailed drawings, shading won't be necessary. They are basically there just to make things look nicer. If you want shading, use a lens flare if you are lazy to create a point where light will come from.

That's a good sketch.
I'm currently trying to get the hang of the whole "clothing creases" thing. Obviously, you can't just put random wrinkles and folds wherever you please, it's gotta make sense. So I'm trying to look around and get used to where the clothing folds naturally, so I can add the details into my drawings.

Ah, good. I'll take a look.
Thanks. Speaking of which, I haven't posted any of my art on here. I'll try to draw one our characters. Likely Mage, but possibly Gen or Nam.

I am the greatest, ever. And besides, Nam is basically a yellow and silver Shadow.

I like your slightly different style as seen in the recent ZaRWoC comic, in comparison to the sprite version.

I was lazy and decided to keep it as simple as possible.

The sprite design was too bulky and complex for drawing, anyway.
And the white eyes just make more sense. Black eyes are cool and all, but....as a forum-goer, you don't need black eyes.

I have about fifty different versions for Diablo, so it doesn't really matter how I go about making him. Splammo, more art: It is of Inmortal, another RP character.

Again, really good.
Back to Diablo: Yeah, but at this point, "Gen" and "Diablo" have become two different people, I would think. Despite the fact we've been using Diablo sprites to represent you. Thus, it's no surprise you should have your own design.
Especially since you're not always evil and serious.

I think the fact that Diablo's design is completely different from the sprite might help too. Diablo: Gen:

What? It is true. Gen and Diablo's designs have changed dramatically from one another, to the point where they haven't been the same for a long time.

While I realized it had changed a bit a while ago, I wasn't really keeping track of this.

Mage, you can't just start drawing and expect to be even slightly good. To get good at it, you need to keep drawing, each time you draw something you get better and better.
I haven't scanned any of my recent drawings, and frankly I don't think that I should be giving artistic advice, but I highly recommend that you start by drawing something simple. Like... Kirby. Kirby's just a circle with stumps for arms and big ovals for feet. Then move onto something more complicated, and so on.
