Nintendo launched the WFC back around November 14. They designed it to be limited; Mario Kart and THAS had no chat whatsoever. In Mario Kart, all you had was a screename and an icon. No form of communication at all. Hell, in order to race a specific person, you each had to exchange friend codes. Animal Crossing launched. It allowed communication, but you could only play with people you knew. (FC's) Why? The answer is simple, Nintendo doesn't want the younger members of their fanbase to be molested. That, and they don't want maniacs with the golden axe to start chopping down everyone's trees. That'd get annoying. So, Nintendo has done an excellent job at that, with it's extremely restricting service. Hell, even Metroid Prime Hunters, which has voice chat, only lets you chat with people who you've exchanged codes with. In other words, the DS is safe and will be for a while. People with the DS didn't exactly like this idea, and complained about it. Hell, they don't even let people on Nsider trade friend codes. But Nintendo has stood strongly with their beliefs, as much as any DS owners hate it. Then this happens: abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=special_coverage&id=3905371&ft=exLg#Whoever put that piece of garbage together clearly had no idea what he/she was talking about. Pictochat is not online! It's on local LAN! There is rarely any communication in any of the games, and if there is, you can only do it with people you know! The scary part is, the stalker in the video was in that coffee shop. And yet, because of the shitty report, that mother will never know... So all of Nintendo's efforts, all of their fanbase's patience and tolerance, and everything that's gone well so far, and still something like this happens. WOW.

OH MY GOD!!! ABC IS MADE UP BY A BUNCH OF IDIOTS!
But I already knew that. Television news people have to make any story, no matter how remote or untrue, "IF YOU DON'T LISTEN TO US YOU'LL DIE TOMORROW!" so this isn't a surprise to me. It is amazing though that it does have absolutely no chatting capabilities 'sides pictochat, and pictochat only works for people that are in the same room, so... you either know the person, or you can find out who the person is just by looking around, and spotting who has a DS. And with all this, people still say its "THE DEVILS MACHINE, MADE TO DESTROY THE MINDS OF CHILDREN".
But why the DS? aren't MMORG's much easier of a target, especially 'cause stalkers, and whatnot acutally DO try to lure unsuspecting people with no lives into chaos.

X-Box Live plays it safe. If you are too young, then you need like ten email addresses of 'responsible adults', eighteen different passwords, and then there is the complaint system that Microsoft included, that lets you report bad users. Voice masking is also fun too. Everyone wants to sound like Darth Vader.

Why not target the PC, X-box, PS2, hell, why not the PSP? It already has 16-player voicechat with a freaking headset, doesn't it? Why the DS? Because it's more popular. (EDIT) Than the PSP.

After all the DS owners have gone through in terms of restrictions, this is just fucking ridiculous...

I dunno, Cutter. PSP is the bee's knees. Can't get past the fact that it has an analog stick, where as the DS doesn't.

We could argue about the PSP and DS for hours, and I'm sure it would be amusing, and filled with bountiful hooker jokes, but about the analog stick...Well, the DS has a touch screen. Works pretty well for Super Mario 64 DS.

Still, analog stick. I don't like touching the DS's no-no place.

That is retarded. The little girl didn't even give out her address! Who gives a crap! Pictochat only goes out from 30 to 60 feet! The means the molestor is freaking in her bushes outside her house (or in this case, the coffe shop), who needs the address then, you are probably already stalking the little kid if you are that close to her.
I don't know much about Metroid Prime Hunters, but I know it has voice chat, and wifi. If Nintendo is scared of this, why would they do that?!
And Gen has a point. Rubbing the DS's lower parts while playing a game called "Where do Babies Come From?" (it's a real game in Japan, renamed Rub Rabbits for US) is creepy.

*sigh* I'll settle the arguement now.
DS if you want to play the Nintendo games, 'cause nintendo only makes games for nintendo products, and so, if you wanna play the Nintendo games, go DS. Likewise, if you are in the good side of the law, and don't have that much cash, go DS.
If you want to do anything imaginable, Go PSP. Its like a mini computer. Of course, most people who buy PSP's buy them for the games, which, Psp doesn't have that many good ones. But it doesn't matter 'cause if you get a 1.5 firmware, you can basically play any game for any system for free.

And they'll probably upgrade Pictochat.
