After a recent arrest which involved my mother, the reason for which I shall not disclose here, the OSPCA (Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) confiscated the dogs on the property. Now these dogs were properly cared for. The dog houses were up to standard, if not exceeding it, and were stuffed with straw to keep the dogs warm. They were fed at least two meals a day and their water buckets were kept full of fresh water and were kept clean. Their areas were kept quite clean and free of their own filth and they were nursed back to health whenever they took ill. Now why is it I'm upset about this you ask? Its not because they confiscated the dogs. Oh no, not for that. It was because they put all of these dogs down. And why is that you may wonder. They had a good home and were never mistreated. I'll tell you why! Its because they were a breed of pitbull. A species feared by most as an agressive dog who would attack at whim. A species that just recently had a bill passed that condemns them. And yet, I hear of other dogs attacking animals and human alike. More often than I hear of pitbull attacks. Here is what my mother had to say:
This is one press release you will NOT find on the OSPCA website. The OSPCA killed our dogs. Why you ask? Because they were American Pit Bull Terriers. Considered a danger to humans and domestic animals. Tell that to the litter of 12 APBT pups that were ONLY 5 weeks old. 2 pups were 10 weeks old. 2 pups were 8 months old. 2 pups were 11 months old. 1 was 12 months, 1 was 17 months, 2 were 18 months,1 was 2 years, 1 was 4 years and the mother of the babies was 6 years old. None of our dogs have ever shown aggression to anyone. They have never run loose or caused problems for anyone. But Bill 132 has condemned them to a lonely death, taken and destroyed by strangers. What satisfaction can the OSPCA have after "putting down" 12 babies that were not yet weaned from their mother. How dangerous could they be? Why were we not given the information that was required for us to save our animals. The lack of effort by the staff at the OSPCA to answer or return phone calls, or provide any information about our animals whatsoever was unethical to say the least. We have not been charged with anything, our animals were healthy and well cared for. They don't support the breed ban?.........Well, tell that to our dogs. Rest easy my babies, this isn't over yet, not by a long shot. May the people responsible for the death of our dogs carry the guilt of it on them for the rest of their living days. Slaughter of the Innocents. No respect for life. I curse you. I used to believe what you represented. Not anymore. You have destroyed all that was precious to me.
And I agree, it is a lot of bull. Never have I seen agression in these dogs. In fact, they were the sweetest dogs I have ever known. The only "agression" I have ever faced is being jumped up on to have my face licked in greeting. Prevention of Cruelty to Animals? I think not. A bit hypocritical if you ask me. One of those dogs I knew quite well, since she was a pup. Denim was her name. She was a friend to me, always willing to listen when I wanted to talk, was always there when I wanted company, and had always loved to sit on my lap (even though she had gotten a bit heavy). I will keep her memory fondly and like my mother I will not rest until something is done about this injustice, even if it takes months of sending word to friends and posting where I can. Fie on the people who would so easily put down an animal because of its breed! Fie on the people who would put down a pup who has barely had a taste of life! The respect I once had for the OSPCA has been shattered to pieces. I cannot- Nay, will not give respect to those who would do such a thing, who would so easily destroy a young life.
I give my permission to any who wish to copy this to send to friends, family, to post elsewhere or to do whatever may be in mind with it. In fact, I encourage you all to spread the word.
